Towards coordinated microbiome R&I activities in the food system to support (EU and) international bioeconomy goals.

The project has the overall objective to establish an international network of experts and stakeholders in the field of microbiome food system research, elaborating microbiomes from various environments such as terrestrial, plant, aquatic, food and human/animal and assess their applicability and impact on the food system.

MicrobiomeSupport will:

• be a key driver to implement FOOD 2030 strategies;
• facilitate multi-actor engagement to align, structure and boost research and innovation in the microbiome field regionally, nationally and internationally;
• support the European Commission by coordinating the activities, meetings, workshops and results from the International Bioeconomy Forum (IBF) working group ‘Food Systems Microbiome’.

MicrobiomeSupport has integrated international partners form Brazil, Canada, South Africa, China, Argentina, Australia, New Zealand, India and USA to improve the international cooperation and coordination of common bioeconomy research programmes and set a basis for common microbiome R&I agendas.

Crop diversification and low-input farming аcross Europe: from practitioners engagement and ecosystems services to increased revenues and value chain organisation.

The main objective of the project is the development and the evaluation of the different diversified cropping systems (rotations, multiple cropping and intercrops for food, feed and industrial products) under low-input practices, for conventional and organic systems for field case studies to increase land productivity and crops quality, and reduce machinery, fertilisers, pesticides, energy and water demands.

Soil biodiversity enhancement in European agroecosystems to promote their stability and resilience by external inputs reduction and crop performance increase.

With the long-term view of fostering synergies between crop production, biodiversity and the delivery of ecosystem services of local, regional and global relevance, the main objective of SoildiverAgro is the adoption of new management practices and cropping systems that enhance soil genetic and functional biodiversity to reduce the use of external inputs while increasing crop production and quality, the delivery of ecosystem services and the EU agricultural stability and resilience.

Breeding for Resilient, Efficient and Sustainable Organic Vegetable production

BRESOV aims to tackle the nutritional challenges of a growing world population and changing climatic conditions by enhancing productivity of different vegetable crops in an organic and sustainable farming infrastructure. BRESOV works on broccoli, snap bean and tomato as those staple vegetable crops have significant roles in meeting our global food and nutritional security goal, and under organic conditions can contribute to storing carbon and introducing nitrogen improving organic soil quality.
