NHM

(NATURAL HISTORY MUSEUM)

The Natural History Museum (NHM) London is an organisation with more than 300 scientists engaged in research on the biodiversity and geological diversity of the natural world.

The scientific mission is to answer questions of broad significance to science and society using our unique expertise and collections, and to share, communicate and apply our skills and findings.

The NHM’s research leaders involved in the project are experts in biodiversity ranging from soil microbiology to invertebrates, application of DNA techniques, biodiversity modelling, mineralogy, and mineral soil processes.

The NHM will contribute its expertise to the assessment of the initial native biodiversity (WP1), and monitoring its dynamics under field conditions (WP4) as well as getting deep into the details of soil-microbe-plant and microbe-mineral interactions (WP5). The NHM lead soil modelling and will develop a database towards the development of a Decision Support System (DSS) for a biodiversity-driven soil management (WP5). NHM will be also key for the dissemination of the project results (WP6), as corresponds to its leadership in Citizen Science, to its scientific mission to answer questions of broad significance to science and society, and to the call on NHM scientists to share, communicate and apply their skills.
